Managing locations

A location on the SC//Reliant™ platform is an object that represents a physical location, such as a restaurant, retail store, or convenience store. A location has a physical address and can have one or more edge devices or eVDI virtual terminals associated with it.

How locations work

All nodes are required to be associated with a location. When a new node is created, the Node Number (sometimes referred to as a Store Number) is used to create a new location or, if the location already exists, associate the node with an existing location. For example, if you created a node with hostname sit0001red0 it would be associated with location name 0001.

When a node is disassociated from a location, whether due to the deletion of a location or the association being removed, it will automatically be relocated to an SC//Reliant platform-managed location named Unassigned. The Unassigned location cannot be deleted. Additionally, when the Unassigned Location appears in the JSON response of an API action, the address fields will be intentionally omitted.

Permissions required to manage locations

The following are the SC//Reliant Platform Manager capabilities required to manage locations.

Create and update a Location - Grants the ability to create a new location or update an existing location.
List Locations - Grants the ability to list the locations for a tenant.
View Location details - Grants the ability to view details about a location. These details include location information and the node details for the location.
Delete a Location - Grants the ability to delete a location.
List previous Location imports - Grants the ability to see previous location import actions in SC//Reliant Platform Manager. This permission is also required to make the Job management > Imports > Locations tab visible in SC//Reliant Platform Manager.
Import Locations - Grants the ability to perform the Upload Locations action on the Job management > Imports > Locations tab in SC//Reliant Platform Manager.
Export Locations information to CSV - Grants the ability to perform the Export CSV action on the Job management > Imports > Locations tab in SC//Reliant Platform Manager.
