Appendix C: System Limits

This page lists the tested and supported sizing limits for clusters, Single Node Systems, and individual VMs running SC//HyperCore™ HyperVisor. For node/hardware combination and compatibility rules, such as which node models can be mixed in a cluster, see Hardware Combination and Node Compatibility.

Maximum VMs per node or per cluster is not currently published in Scale Computing’s support materials. Contact Scale Computing Support or your Sales Engineer for sizing guidance specific to your workload.

Cluster and Single Node System Limits

Limit Value
Cluster — minimum nodes 3
Cluster — maximum nodes 8
Cluster — maximum physical drives per storage tier 100
Single Node System (SNS) Exactly 1 node

Per-VM Limits

Limit Value
Virtual disk capacity No minimum; 16 TB maximum
Virtual disk count No minimum; 26 maximum
Virtual NIC count No minimum; 8 maximum

Replication Limits

  • One-to-one replication (one system’s VMs to/from another system) is supported.
  • One-to-many replication (different VMs from one system replicating to multiple other systems) is supported.
  • One-to-many replication of the same VM from one system to multiple other systems is not supported.
  • A maximum of 25 source systems can replicate to a single target system. For more than 25 source systems replicating to one target, contact Scale Computing Support to discuss your use case.

VM Import and Export

  • QCOW2 v3 is supported on SC//HyperCore 7.2 and later.
  • SMBv3 is supported for SC//HyperCore VM export destinations on SC//HyperCore 8.0 and later.
  • The latest VirtIO drivers should be used for migrations to an SC//HyperCore cluster, and are required for full support afterward — see Supported Guest Operating Systems and Install the Scale Computing Guest Agent Tools. E1000/IDE/Compatibility drivers are supported only where Scale Computing Support directs their use.

These limits reflect tested and supported configurations. For the most current limits, see the SC//HyperCore Software Support Guide.
