Supported Guest Operating Systems

SC//HyperCore™ HyperVisor software supports a range of Windows and Linux/Unix guest operating systems. Each OS has a minimum required SC//HyperCore version for full support, and most features (disk mount display, live disk add/delete) depend on the Scale Computing Guest Agent Tools being installed.

Any guest operating system not listed below may operate normally but is not tested for stability or functionality; minimal support assistance will be available for unlisted OSes.

For the complete and most current compatibility matrix, including system limits and replication version support, refer to the SC//HyperCore Software Support Guide.

Windows Server

OS Boot Type Minimum SC//HyperCore Version VirtIO Driver Version
Windows Server 2025 (x64) BIOS/UEFI 9.4.21+ 0.1.141
Windows Server 2022 (x64) BIOS/UEFI 9.1.14+ 0.1.141
Windows Server 2019 (x64) BIOS/UEFI 8.2+ 0.1.141
Windows Server 2016 (x64) BIOS/UEFI 7.2+ 0.1.141

Windows (Desktop)

OS Boot Type Minimum SC//HyperCore Version VirtIO Driver Version
Windows 11 (x64) BIOS/UEFI 9.4.17+ (for full support) 0.1.141
Windows 10 (x64) BIOS/UEFI No minimum specified 0.1.141

All Windows and Windows Server guest OSes require the Guest Agent Tools for virtual disk mount display, and support live disk add/delete (IDE virtual disk types are not compatible with this feature).

Windows 11 requires a TPM to install and run. See vTPM Support in SC//HyperCore for how to create a vTPM-equipped VM and which Boot Type to use, or In-Place Windows Upgrades for upgrading an existing Windows 10 VM to Windows 11.

Linux/Unix

Distribution VirtIO Drivers Notes
CentOS Enterprise Linux Packaged Versions currently supported by the manufacturer
RHEL Enterprise Linux Packaged Versions currently supported by the manufacturer
Ubuntu Server Packaged Versions currently supported by the manufacturer
SUSE Linux Enterprise Packaged Versions currently supported by the manufacturer
Fedora Packaged Versions currently supported by the manufacturer
FreeBSD Packaged Versions currently supported by the manufacturer

Linux/Unix guest OSes require the Guest Agent Tools (qemu-guest-agent / qemu-ga) for virtual disk mount display, and support live disk add/delete (IDE virtual disk types are not compatible with this feature).

Kernel versions prior to 2.6.34 without appropriate patches expose an issue that causes the VM to hang after upgrading to SC//HyperCore 7.6 and later. Ensure the appropriate kernel is in place before upgrading.
