Creating a user
In order to access the SC//Reliantâ„¢ platform, you must have a user account. This provides a way to authenticate to the platform. It also associates all of the actions you perform to your user account, which can then be audited.
Each user account is assigned a role that consists of one or more permissions that control access to SC//Reliant resources. If you aren't sure which user roles to use, see Managing user roles.
Prerequisites
Your role must include the user management capabilities for the settings you configure, such as Create a user, Manage roles for other users, and the capabilities that manage API, SC//Reliant Platform Manager, and shell access. For the full list, see Managing user permissions. If you have issues creating a user, contact your SC//Reliant administrator or your Scale Computing Account Manager.
Creating a user
The following steps walk you through the process of creating a new user.
- Access and log in to the SC//Reliant Platform Manager at https://platform.reliant.io/.
- From the left navigation menu, under Administration, choose Users.
- On the Users page, choose + New User and do the following.
- For Name, specify the user's first and last name.
- For Username, specify the username to uniquely identify the user. This field is required.
- For Email, specify the user's full email address. This field is required. If the user signs in through a SAML identity provider, this must match the email address the identity provider sends for the user.
- For Assigned Sites, choose the sites the user can open. For more information, see Sites and access.
- For Authorization Site, choose one of the user's Assigned Sites. The user signs in with the authentication method configured for this site, which is shown on the page.
- For Role, use the drop down menu to select an appropriate user role. The menu lists only roles the user can hold (global roles plus roles that share at least one site with the user's Assigned Sites), and it updates when you change Assigned Sites. A role is selected by default. For more information on user roles, see Managing user roles.
- For API Access, select the option to enable or disable API access for the user. The default is Disabled.
- For RPM Access, select the option to enable or disable SC//Reliant Platform Manager console access for the user. The default is Enabled.
- For Shell Account, select the option to enable or disable shell access to nodes for the user. The default is Disabled.
- The Password field provides a temporary password you can provide to the user to access their account. They should update their password upon initial login.
- Verify all of the options and then choose Save to create the user.
Next steps
If you have enabled API access, SC//Reliant Platform Manager access, or a shell account for the user then the next step is to update the user account to retrieve the settings or further configure that access. For more information, see Updating a user.
