Updating a user
An SC//Reliantâ„¢ platform user account can be updated to be allowed to perform the following actions.
- Update password
- Update name or email address
- Update user role
- Toggle API, SC//Reliant Platform Manager, and Shell account access on and off
Use the following procedures to update your user account.
Prerequisites
To update another user's account, your role must include the user management capabilities for the settings you change, such as Update a user, Manage roles for other users, and the capabilities that manage API, SC//Reliant Platform Manager, and shell access. For the full list, see Managing user permissions.
You can't change the role on your own account. If you have issues updating a user, or need to change your own role, Assigned Sites, or Authorization Site, contact your SC//Reliant administrator or your Scale Computing Account Manager.

Turning on API access for a user account
By default, a new user doesn't have API access. The following steps show how to turn on API access for a user. The authentication token and secret key must be provided to the user. The user uses both the token and secret key to authenticate to the API. For more information, see API access requirements.

- From the left navigation menu, under Administration, choose Users.
- On the Users page, use the search function to locate the user you want to update.
- On the users page, choose Edit.
- From the edit page, do the following.
- For API Access, choose the Enabled radio button.
- For API Authentication Token, choose Generate New Token. This auth token must be provided to the user.
- For API Secret Key, choose Generate New Secret Key. This secret key must be provided to the user.
- Verify all of the options and then choose Save to update the user account.
Turning on shell access for a user account
By default, a new user doesn't have shell access. A properly configured shell account provides a way for the user to SSH to the physical nodes in your SC//Reliant platform environment.
Configuring shell access involves generating an SSH key, adding the public key to the account, and setting shell account options such as home directory, sudo, and groups. For the full procedures and a reference for each setting, see Configuring shell access.
