Registration and Setup

The SC//HyperCore™ HyperVisor saves you time and resources because your software, servers, and storage sit in one fully integrated platform. The SC//HyperCore system is custom-built on the KVM architecture, and it integrates directly with the Scale Computing Reliable Independent Block Engine (SCRIBE) storage layer. It simplifies virtualization and software automation.

  • Find, reduce, and fix problems in real time
  • Get results faster and more easily, even when local IT resources are scarce

Whatever your hardware, SC//HyperCore software gives you the same features and the same simple web interface to run your infrastructure.

After your SC//HyperCore nodes are installed, set up the initial configuration in the SC//HyperCore web interface. This includes system settings, user accounts, and ISO management.

Until registration is complete, the system prompts you to register through the web interface each time you sign in.

You can also stage and provision new clusters entirely from SC//Fleet™ Manager, without the manual registration steps below.

Prerequisites

To access the SC//HyperCore web interface, you need:

  • An installed SC//HyperCore system
  • A machine that can access the LAN IPs of the SC//HyperCore system on your network
  • A supported web browser. Check SC//HyperCore Browser Support for the latest details

You need the initial login credentials from Scale Computing Support. Support normally gives you these as part of the installation service engagement.

  1. Open the SC//HyperCore web interface through SC//Fleet Manager (see SC//Fleet Manager), or point a web browser directly at the LAN IP of a node in the system.
  2. For the initial sign-in, enter admin as the username.
  3. Enter the password that Scale Computing Support gave you.
  4. Click Login.

You can set up more accounts for web interface access if you need them. See Access Control for details.

Registering with Internet Access

Complete the settings from top to bottom in the Settings tab of the Control Center. Some settings are optional. The first two boxes, Cluster Name and Company Name/Technical Contact, are required to register with Scale Computing.

The system updates registration information automatically whenever it detects a hardware change. This includes adding or removing an SC//HyperCore node, a node becoming unavailable, or any hardware failure, such as a drive failure.

Setting Description
Cluster Name A name to identify this particular cluster.
Registration Register the system to your account in the Scale Computing database with a Company Name, Technical Contact, Phone number, and Email address.
DNS Configure DNS Server(s) and Search Domains. Scale Computing Support recommends including an external physical or virtual DNS server.
OpenID Connect Settings Configure SSO integration settings with OpenID Connect.
Time Server Indicate a local or external time server (IP address or DNS name).
Time Zone Select your timezone. Important for system logging and the statemachine.
SMTP Settings Set up an SMTP server for email alerts. The “from” address can be customized if needed.
Email Alert Recipients Manage and test system email alert recipient addresses. The default address (alerts3@scalecomputing.com) is optional.
Syslog Servers (Optional) Configure a syslog server. Captures standard system email alerts only.

Registering without Internet Access

Complete the settings from top to bottom in the Settings tab of the Control Center. Some settings are optional. The first two boxes, Cluster Name and Company Name/Technical Contact, are required. The system then prompts you to complete registration by hand.

  1. Enter your Cluster Name and Registration details. When registration can’t complete online, a prompt shows the next steps.
  2. Click the button to Copy Registration Data.
  3. Paste the copied data into a text file.
  4. Copy the text file to a machine with internet access.
  5. Email the file to registration@scalecomputing.com. Scale Computing Support sends you a Registration Code within 1–2 business days.
  6. When you receive the Registration Code, enter it in the registration prompt in the Settings tab of the Control Center.

The system updates registration information automatically whenever it detects a hardware change. If the change isn’t expected to last, you can ignore the offline registration prompt. One example is a node that’s unavailable because of a network issue that will be fixed.

Complete the remaining settings (DNS, OpenID Connect, Time Server, Time Zone, SMTP, Email Alert Recipients, Syslog Servers) as described in Registering with Internet Access.
