OS Version 4.5.0

OS Version 4.5.0

Summary

Release Date: May 20, 2025

The EOS 4.5.0 release adds the following enhancements to ELFIQ OS.

  • Upgrade path:
    • ELFIQ devices running on OS v4.4.1 or earlier cannot be upgraded directly to v4.5.0. To learn more about upgrading your devices to v4.5.0, contact Adaptiv Support.
    • Starting with EOS 4.5.0, firmware files are distributed in the .swu format instead of the previous .bin format. When performing a firmware upgrade through the Management Interface, ensure you select the correct firmware file that matches your device model and EOS version. See Upgrade using the Management Interface.
  • Interface changes – Ports on all hardware devices are now consistently named pX instead of ethX.
  • Architecture changes – The Gmac functionality no longer includes the Gmac child concept.
  • Security and access – SSH access now requires key-based authentication. SSL VPN is deprecated.
  • Features and protocols – This release announces the deprecation of deep packet inspection (DPI), Active Directory integration and OSPF/BGP protocol.
  • Packet capture – The packet capture tool is changed from netsniff to tcpdump.
  • CLI changes – Updated the "set mgmtip" command to make the gateway argument mandatory.
In High Availability (HA) configurations, a new optional command "set preferred state" is introduced, allowing users to define the preferred master or backup unit.
  • Stateful Firewall – The stateful firewall consolidates multiple legacy functions:
    • Filtering (stateless ACLs) – Deprecated in 4.5.0 and integrated into stateful firewall rules.
    • Shunning (DDoS mitigation) – Deprecated in 4.5.0 and integrated inside the stateful firewall.
    • Session Guard – Deprecated in 4.5.0 and fully covered by stateful firewall.
  • Deprecation of remote authentication methods – With this version, remote authentication protocols (AD, LDAP, and RADIUS) are no longer supported. Authentication is now restricted to local user accounts.
