Creating a node group

Creating a node group

A node group is a common set of configuration settings you want to apply to one or more nodes. Most of the time, you can clone an existing node group and make the changes you want to it instead of creating a node group from scratch. However, it is possible to create a node group from scratch as well. For more information about each node group property, see Node group property reference.

Creating a new node group

The following steps walk you through the process of creating a new node group using the SC//Reliantâ„¢ Platform Manager.

  1. Access and log in to the SC//Reliant Platform Manager at https://platform.reliant.io/.
  2. From the left navigation menu, choose Node Groups.
  3. On the Node Groups page, choose + New Node Group and do the following.
    1. For Name, specify a name for the node group. The name should begin with your customer code and describe the purpose of the node group. For example, for customer code SIT we may use the node group name SIT Cluster Austin to identify a node group for a cluster located in Austin.
    2. For Type, specify the types of nodes that will use this node group. The available options are Regular, Server, and Virtual.
    3. For Puppet Environment, specify the name of the Puppet environment the nodes should use. When this field is left blank, the production environment is used.
    4. For Level of Hierarchy, use the drop down menu to select the level of hierarchy for the node group.
    5. For Template Name, you can leave this blank as it is auto-generated based on the node group name when saving.
    6. For Role, select the node group role to use.
    7. For Type of Server, select the server type to use or leave it blank.
    8. For Choria Domain, specify the domain the nodes use to connect to Remote Job Execution (RJE). Use the same value as your other node groups whose API jobs succeed. A wrong value doesn't change the nodes' status, but every RVC job sent to the nodes in the group fails with Node <hostname> not discovered by RJE broker. If you clone a node group, the clone keeps the original group's value, so check it.
    9. For RJE Environment, leave the value blank unless you've been instructed otherwise.
    10. For Group Properties, select each of the node group properties to set on the node group.
    11. For Puppet Profiles, select each of the Puppet profiles to set on the node group.
  4. Verify all of the settings and then choose Save to create the node group.

Cloning an existing node group

  3. On the Node Groups page, search for and select the node group you'd like to clone.
  4. On the node group detail page, choose Clone.
  5. On the pop-up window, specify a name for the cloned node group and then choose Confirm.
