Signing in to SC//Nexus
SC//Nexus™ is reached over the internet at https://nexus.scalecomputing.com/. You identify yourself with your email address, SC//Nexus hands you to the identity provider your organization signs in through, and once that provider has authenticated you, SC//Nexus opens the Scale Computing applications your organization is entitled to.
Before you start
You need an SC//Nexus account and the email address it was created with. Scale Computing creates your account and adds it to your organization when you are onboarded, so there is nothing to register or install.
The email address matters beyond identifying you: SC//Nexus matches it to your organization, and it must also match the account your identity provider authenticates you as. A mismatch between the two — most often a difference in capitalization — is the usual cause of a rejected sign-in.
Signing in
- Navigate to https://nexus.scalecomputing.com/.
-
Enter your email address.
SC//Nexus uses the address to find the organization your account belongs to, so it is the address, rather than anything you choose, that determines which identity provider you are offered next.
-
Choose Sign in with
<identity_provider>.The button names the identity provider configured for your organization. An organization federated to JumpCloud shows Sign in with JumpCloud, for example. The name shown is the Identity provider name recorded on the organization, so it reflects how your organization was configured rather than a fixed list of providers.
If you mistyped the address, choose the option to enter a different email address instead. SC//Nexus re-evaluates which organization and identity provider apply to the address you supply.
-
Complete authentication at your identity provider.
Your identity provider owns this step, so whatever it enforces applies: your corporate credentials, any multi-factor prompt, and any conditional access policy such as device posture or geo-restriction. SC//Nexus takes no part until the identity provider returns a signed assertion.
- SC//Nexus signs you in and opens the Your applications page.
Opening a Scale Computing application
The Your applications page lists the products provisioned to your organization, grouped by what they do, with an Access now control on each.
Choosing Access now opens that application. Your SC//Nexus session carries downstream, so SC//AcuVigil™ and SC//Reliant™ Platform Manager open without a second sign-in and without a separate set of credentials to maintain.
The page reflects your organization's entitlements rather than the full Scale Computing catalog, so it stays current as those entitlements change. A product added to your organization appears here under the same sign-in, with nothing new to set up.
Navigating between platforms
Your session belongs to SC//Nexus rather than to any individual platform, so once you are signed in it carries across every platform your organization is entitled to. Moving from one to another does not prompt you to authenticate again.
There are three ways to get from one platform to another.
- A cross-platform link, where one exists. Some views link directly to their counterpart in another platform. Viewing a location in SC//AcuVigil™, for example, gives you a View in Reliant Platform button on the Status page, which opens that location in SC//Reliant™ Platform Manager.
- A bookmark or a direct URL. Because SC//Nexus holds the session rather than each platform holding its own, you can bookmark a page deep inside a platform and return to it later, or enter a platform's address directly. Neither route sends you back to the sign-in screen while your session is current.
- The Your applications page. Returning to SC//Nexus lists every platform provisioned to your organization, each with its Access now control. This is the route to a platform you have no bookmark or direct link for.
Signing out
Ending your SC//Nexus session does not end your session at your identity provider, because SC//Nexus publishes no single logout endpoint. On a shared or public computer, sign out of your identity provider separately.
If you are prompted for a username and password
Being asked for a password, rather than being offered your identity provider, means SC//Nexus did not resolve the address to an organization with an identity provider attached. The usual causes are:
- The address does not match an SC//Nexus account. Check for a typo and re-enter it.
- Your organization has no identity provider configured. Federation is set up once per organization, by your organization's administrator working with Scale Computing. Contact your administrator to make sure they have worked with your Scale Computing account manager or Support to complete the setup described in Onboarding your organization to SC//Nexus.
- The identity provider is configured, but its own settings send you the wrong way. Microsoft Entra in particular behaves differently depending on whether Sign on URL is set. See Configuring Microsoft Entra as an identity provider.
If the sign-in is rejected after you authenticate successfully at your identity provider, the address your provider asserts likely differs from the one on your SC//Nexus account. The per-provider pages under Configuring an identity provider that supports SAML 2.0 cover matching the two.
