MultiWAN's link tests, sensitivity, flap protection, weights, and load balance groups are set on the Settings sub-view of the site's MultiWAN tab in the SC//AcuVigilâ„¢ dashboard. Scale Computing configures these settings for you. Use this page to understand the current settings and to decide what to ask for when you want a change.
Before you begin
Make sure each WAN connection at the site is set up on the edge security device (ESD). On sites that use VLAN segments for WAN, the WAN port carries the WAN100 and WAN200 segments.
View or change the settings
To view the current settings, open the site's Status page, choose the MultiWAN tab, and then choose Settings.
To change a setting, contact Scale Computing Support with the site and the change you want. Open a ticket in the SC//AcuVigil dashboard, email team@scalecomputing.com, or call (512) 687-7401. A change to the weights or load balance groups can move traffic between WAN connections, so plan it for a time when a short disruption is acceptable.
What the settings do
| Setting | What it does | Default | More detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Use Ping Tests | Yes tests each WAN connection with ping (ICMP) to the Track IP addresses. No uses the default UDP tests. | No | |
| Sensitivity | How quickly MultiWAN marks a connection offline or online: High checks every 5 seconds, Medium every 120 seconds, and Low every 180 seconds. | Medium | Sensitivity in MultiWAN |
| Load Balance Group and Weight | The group sets each connection's priority (group 1 first). The weight sets its share of traffic within the group; weights in a group add up to 100, and each is at least 20. | Each connection in its own group, weight 100 | Interface weights and load balancing groups |
| Failback Delay | How many minutes a recovered higher-priority connection must wait before MultiWAN uses it again. | 0 (no delay) | Failback delay |
| Hysteresis, Failure Count, Time Window, Pause Duration | Pauses failover for a connection that keeps going offline and online (flapping). | Disabled (0, 30 seconds, 15 seconds) | Hysteresis |
For every field on the Settings view, see MultiWAN tab.
Verify the configuration
- Open the site's Status page and choose the MultiWAN tab.
- In the Status view, check that every WAN interface is listed with the load balance group and weight you expect.
- Check that State is Online and Tracking is Active for each connected interface.
- Check that the primary interface is the active interface.
For a description of each field, see MultiWAN tab.
Troubleshooting
If MultiWAN isn't working as you expect:
- Check that the ISP equipment at the site is powered on and operating normally.
- On the MultiWAN tab, check each interface's State, Tracking, and Tests Passed values. A falling Tests Passed ratio on an online interface points to intermittent connectivity problems.
- On the History view of the MultiWAN tab, look for periods when a non-primary interface was carrying traffic.
- Check that your load balance groups, weights, and sensitivity are set as intended. Check that the weights in each group add up to 100 and that none is below 20.
If the problem continues, contact Scale Computing Support. Open a ticket in the SC//AcuVigil dashboard, email team@scalecomputing.com, or call (512) 687-7401. Include a screenshot of the MultiWAN tab showing the interface states.
Tip: Review your MultiWAN configuration regularly to make sure it still matches the WAN connections at the site. |
