MultiWAN tab

The MultiWAN tab displays the status of the MultiWAN application running on the SC//AcuVigil™ edge security device (ESD). MultiWAN provides failover and load balancing across multiple WAN interfaces. Use this tab to check the active WAN interface, review interface health, and inspect historical failover events.

Application description: Failover and load balancing for multiple WAN interfaces.

Supported ESD models: SG1v1, SG2v1, XG1v1, VG

Layout

The MultiWAN tab has a standard app header and three sub-views: Status, History, and Settings. The default sub-view is Status.

Element Description
App icon MultiWAN app icon. Decorative.
MultiWAN App name / block title.
Subtitle "Failover and load balancing for multiple WAN interfaces." Static descriptor.
Version Package version string (for example, Ver.R236BB).
Status Link. Switches to the Status sub-view.
History Link. Switches to the History sub-view.
Settings Link. Switches to the Settings sub-view.

Status sub-view

The default sub-view. Shows the currently active WAN interface and a table of all configured WAN interfaces with their health data.

Active VPN Interface

Active VPN Interface: <interface_name>

Identifies which WAN interface is currently carrying the site's VPN traffic, for example wan.

Interfaces table

One row per configured WAN interface.

Column Description
Name Interface name (for example, wan, wan100, wan200, aux).
Load Balance Group The priority group this interface belongs to. Lower number = higher priority. Group 1 is primary; higher numbers are standby.
State Current interface state: Online or Offline.
Since When the interface last changed to its current state (format: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM).
Tracking Whether connectivity tracking is running on the interface, for example Active.
Tests Passed Tracking tests passed, in the format passed/total (for example, 893/914).
Weight The interface's share of traffic within its load balance group. 0 indicates the interface is not carrying traffic.
External IP The public IP address reported for this interface when online. Empty when offline.
Status Health status of this interface: OK, INFO, WARNING, or CRITICAL.

History sub-view

Shows time-series graphs of WAN activity. All times are in Central Time.

Controls

Element Description
Period Buttons: Prev, 1D, 7D, 30D, Next. 1D, 7D, and 30D set the length of the period. Prev and Next move back or forward by one period.
Start Date Date picker. Sets the start of the period shown.
Jump to Links: Now, Last Week, Last Month. Moves the graphs to that period.
Reset Zoom Button on each graph. Restores the graph to the full period after you zoom in.

To zoom in on a graph, click and drag across the time range you want to see. Select Reset Zoom to return to the full period.

Active Interface graph

Plots which interface was active over the period.

Legend labels: Primary, Secondary, No Data.

  • Primary means an interface in load balance group 1 was active.
  • Secondary means a lower-priority interface was active, so the site had failed over.

Interface graphs

One graph per WAN interface, labeled Interface <name> (for example, Interface wan). Plots the interface's status over the period.

Legend labels: OK, INFO, WARNING, CRITICAL, No Data.

Settings sub-view

Note: Scale Computing manages these settings as part of the managed service. You can view them here. To request a change, contact Scale Computing Support: open a ticket in the SC//AcuVigil dashboard, email team@scalecomputing.com, or call (512) 687-7401.

Controls how MultiWAN tests each WAN interface, when it fails over and fails back, and how traffic is shared between interfaces.

Field Type Options Description
Use Ping Tests Dropdown Yes, No Whether MultiWAN uses ping tests to the track IP addresses to check each interface. Default: No (UDP tests).
Sensitivity Dropdown High, Medium, Low How quickly MultiWAN reacts to failed connectivity tests. Default: Medium. See Sensitivity in MultiWAN.
Failback Delay Number (minutes) — How long the higher-priority interface must be healthy again before traffic moves back to it. Default: 0.
Track IP Text area — The IP addresses MultiWAN tests to check connectivity on each interface.
Hysteresis Dropdown Disabled, Enabled Tooltip: "Enables/disables hysteresis logic." When enabled, MultiWAN pauses switching on an interface that goes offline repeatedly in a short time (flapping). Default: Disabled.
Failure Count Number — Tooltip: "Number of offline transitions within the window to trigger hysteresis." Default: 0.
Time Window Number (seconds) — Tooltip: "Time window (in seconds) to track flaps." Default: 30.
Pause Duration Number (seconds) — Tooltip: "Pause duration (in seconds) after hysteresis is triggered." Default: 15.

Interfaces table

One row per WAN interface.

Column Type Description
Interface Read-only The interface name, for example wan or wan100.
Weight Number The interface's share of traffic within its load balance group. Tooltip: "Weights within a Load Balance Group must add up to 100. Minimum valid weight is 20."
Load Balance Group Dropdown, 1 to 10 The interface's priority. Group 1 carries traffic first. MultiWAN uses the next group only when every interface in the groups above it is offline.
Disable Alerts Checkbox Stops alerts for this interface.

For example, to share traffic equally between two connections and keep a cellular connection as backup, put wan and wan100 in group 1 with weight 50 each, and put aux in group 2 with weight 100.

Buttons

Element Type Description
Update Settings Button Saves the settings and applies them to the ESD.
Delete Config Link Deletes the MultiWAN configuration for this site.

Alerts

The Alerts section lists the alerts set up for MultiWAN. Scale Computing sets up alerts as part of the managed service; to request one, contact Scale Computing Support.

Note: A settings change applies to the live site right away. A change to the weights or load balance groups can move traffic between WAN connections.

What to look for

  1. Active VPN Interface — the primary interface (for example, wan in group 1) should be active under normal operation. A secondary interface being active means the primary has failed.
  2. State = Offline on the primary — combined with the secondary being Online, confirms active failover.
  3. Tests Passed ratio declining — a dropping ratio (for example, 450/914) on an Online interface indicates intermittent connectivity problems even when the interface has not fully failed over.
  4. Secondary bands in the Active Interface graph — these show periods when a non-primary interface was carrying traffic. Click and drag to zoom in and read exact failover times.
