OS Version 4.6.0
Summary
Release Date: May 29, 2026
The EOS 4.6.0 release adds the following new features, enhancements, and bug fixes to improve overall user experience.
New Feature
- First Packet Inspection (FPI) – We are excited to introduce the highlight of EOS 4.6.0 release — an advanced application recognition and prioritization feature called first packet inspection or FPI. FPI recognizes and categorizes applications in different categories and allows customers to apply policies such as application prioritization, bandwidth reservation, and path selection to these applications. This ensures guaranteed bandwidth and QoS for mission-critical applications within the network.
Please note that FPI replaces DPI (deep packet inspection), which was removed in EOS v4.5.0.
Enhancements
- New licenses for Core-MK2 – We have optimized performance for the Core-MK2 devices and added two new licenses, COREMK2_30G and COREMK2_40G, for the device.
- High Availability (HA) Improvements – This release brings in the following improvements to HA:
- Introduced a new command to remove the VMAC group in HA deployments.
- In HA setups, the master configuration is replicated to the backup, but the set vmac command is not replicated, requiring manual configuration on each unit.
- ARP host configurations are synchronized, ensuring ARP entries from the active unit are replicated to the backup unit.
- MAC address standardization – MAC address display has been standardized to comply with IEEE 802-2001 formatting conventions.
- Improved help messages for CLI commands – For console users, CLI errors now display help messages to guide users in correctly configuring commands.
- Ability to configure hash algorithm – Customers can specify hash algorithm for LACP configuration.
- CPE Web UI Improvements – CPE Web UI improvements include:
- Rearranged information in the AppOptimizer tab for better visibility.
- Improved usability in AppOptimizer > Cumulative Statistics by adding an ability to unselect an application, allowing users to easily revert to the default view displaying all application data.
Deprecations
- The Protofix functionality that implements an Application Layer Gateway (ALG) for SIP and FTP has been deprecated from EOS starting 4.6.0 release. Protofix supported unencrypted SIP and FTP traffic. As most traffic is now encrypted, this legacy feature has been removed.
- In a High Availability (HA) configuration, configuration changes are automatically applied after the user runs the saveall command. Restarting the failover module is no longer required for the changes to take effect and the command has been deprecated with 4.6.0 release.
Caveats
- 225 – The FPI engine is sometimes unable to identify traffic for certain applications such as Youtube or TikTok. As a result, policies intended to block Youtube or TikTok are not enforced consistently, and the application may bypass configured restrictions.
- 254 – When enabling the netconsole feature on the CPE, ensure that a serial console cable is not connected to the device. Enabling netconsole increases the logging level and could overwhelm the CPU of the CPE, causing its network interfaces to be reset.
- 260 – Upgrading a CPE from a remote web GUI session is not supported. Attempting to do so will result in the upgrade to fail. Web GUI upgrades from a local LAN connection are, however, supported.
Resolved Issues
- 163 – In ELFIQ Central, the CPU and System Temperature values for all devices were shown as "N/A".
- 171 – The system failed run command line "more".
- 175 – The system failed to use the user-configured internal DNS servers when resolving domain names for accessing ELFIQ Central.
- 178 – Setting the VMAC Group value to 0 in a High Availability (HA) pair caused the keepalived process to fail on both units.
- 181 – The sh int command failed to show correct port speed for SFP28 port configured with 25 Gbps on Core-MK2 devices.
- 192 – The system failed to include the service name in the PPPoE client request.
- 196 – When the cli command flashrm default.cfg is executed the file is not removed from disk.
- 214 – The CPE did not attempt to re-establish a connection with the ELFIQ Central agent after the connection was either interrupted or lost. As a result, the device became unreachable from Central, preventing users from accessing or managing the CPE through the platform.
- 243 – Fixed an issue affecting cancellation of scheduled reboot of devices. This issue only affects customers running on OS 4.5.0.
- 246 – The System Temperature for E-80 was reported as 0°C. This was observed in both CPE Web UI as well as ELFIQ Central.
- 250 – Resolved issues that affected ICVs related to the link data as well as the ICV daily timer.
