Static Public IP at LAN

Static Public IP at LAN

A static public IP configuration is beneficial for networks that require a direct public IP access. In this configuration, a static public IP address is configured on the LAN side, making LAN devices directly accessible from the internet.

The following image shows a static public IP at LAN configuration. Because the LAN is directly connected to the internet via public IP addresses on the firewall and Edge device, as can be seen in the image, the network is less secure. Double NATing is not necessary in this configuration since the firewall handles NATing. For certain VoIP services that experience audio problems due to double NATing, this is advantageous.

With static public IP at LAN, customers can configure a static public IP address on the LAN side and reserve a static public IP address block from Adaptiv Networks (subnet /30 or greater). The LAN device traffic is directly routable from the internet and can be linked to a specific gateway (PoP). The BGP table points the public IP address to the gateway for incoming traffic, applying bidirectional QoS and seamless failover. This configuration eliminates the need for need for DIA with public IP address from ISP. It is common for ISPs to require a DIA for public IP addresses. With Adaptiv Connect, you can use any internet link, with or without public IP addresses.

In the table below are some sample use cases and benefits of a Static Public IP at LAN.

Use Case
Explanation
Online Gaming Server
A gaming company hosts an online multiplayer game requiring low latency and direct connectivity. They lease a block of static public IP addresses from Adaptiv and assign these IPs to their game servers on the LAN. This direct accessibility ensures optimal performance and reduces complexities associated with double NATing, providing a seamless gaming experience.
Telecommunications Provider
A telecommunications provider offering VoIP and UCaaS services leases a block of static public IP addresses from Adaptiv for their infrastructure. Each VoIP phone and UCaaS service on the LAN side is assigned a public IP, making them directly accessible from the internet. This setup is crucial for ensuring reliable and low-latency communication services, as it eliminates double NAT issues. The provider employs robust security measures to protect their network, recognizing the increased vulnerability of having devices directly exposed to the internet. This configuration supports high-performance, real-time communication essential for their business model.
