Gateway Connectivity

Gateway Connectivity

Gateway Connectivity is the most important aspect of Adaptiv solutions. The gateways are leveraged by all three solutions — Business Connect, Enterprise Connect and My Connect — to optimize connectivity and application performance. Gateway Connectivity is the connection established between a customer's site and the Adaptiv Network's Points of Presence (PoPs). The gateway software and related hardware sit at Adaptiv Network's Points of Presence. The gateway connection is crucial to route customer network traffic through the SD-WAN network. It ensures that data from the customer's network can securely and efficiently traverse through Adaptiv's proprietary encrypted tunnels to reach the desired destinations (one site to another, data centers, cloud services).

Secure traffic is a feature of gateway traffic. Secure Traffic refers to data that is transmitted across the network with encryption and other security measures to protect its confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity. In the context of Adaptiv Connect, this means that all data passing through the proprietary encrypted tunnel is safeguarded against interception, tampering, and unauthorized access. There is also a security stack at the gateways that can be leveraged to reinforce the protection against threats.

If one or more physical ISP connections fail, the gateway connectivity guarantees ongoing connectivity. Additionally, it offers bi-directional QoS (Quality of Service) to optimize performance and prioritize important applications. By guaranteeing that all data between the customer site and PoPs is secure via encryption, URL filtering, and/or the use of secure web gateways, it strengthens the solution's security. Although gateway connectivity offers failover and QoS, its performance still depends on the quality of the underlying internet connections. Additionally, the initial setup and configuration for large networks is complex and must be done with careful planning and expertise. Currently, the maximum gateway tunnel size for any solution is 1 Gbps. Adaptiv advises using split tunnelling if a customer needs a higher throughput. This will allow all non-essential traffic to be broken at the Edge device and only the most important traffic to be optimized through the tunnel.

To maximize the benefits of gateway connectivity, ensure that the solution is appropriately configured to fit your network architecture and business requirements. To guarantee the advantages of gateway connectivity, regular network performance and security monitoring are necessary. Take advantage of Adaptiv’s training resources and support services to fully understand and leverage the SD-WAN features.  Regularly review network policies and QoS settings to adapt to changing business requirements.
