WAN Failover

The WAN Failover application provides high-availability network connectivity by automatically switching between the primary and secondary Internet connections if either one fails. The application is designed for a nearly undetectable transition during failover and failback events, and you can customize the parameters of these events to suit your site.

For failover across more than two interfaces and load balancing of traffic across multiple WAN links, see MultiWAN.

Important: A site uses only one application to manage its WAN connections. Don't install WAN Failover on an ESD that runs MultiWAN or SC//Connect. For a comparison, see Failover and load balancing.

Where to find it

To see this application's reports and company-wide settings for all your sites, select WAN Failover from the Apps menu. The page is titled WAN Failover.

Company-wide settings

The WAN Failover company page has Reports and Settings. Settings holds the default failover settings: Sensitivity (Normal or Low), Test IP Addresses, Use Ping Tests, Failover to Secondary If (any test fails, the majority of tests fail, or all tests fail), Failback to Primary, and Status When Using Secondary (OK, WARNING, or CRITICAL). Under Alerts, Add new alert... sets up an email or text alert when the primary network source isn't active. For what each setting does, see WAN Failover tab.

Scale Computing manages these company-wide settings as part of the managed service. To request a change, contact Scale Computing Support.
