The Scale Computing™ MG3 is the earlier generation of edge security device (ESD). It does the same job as the current models: it's the site's firewall and gateway, and it connects the site to SC//AcuVigil™. Many sites still run an MG3.

Some applications support only some revisions. For example, a page may list "MG3 (version 3 or later)". Each application's page lists the models it supports.
Network ports
| Port | Use |
|---|---|
| WAN | The primary internet connection. |
| AUX | A second port that can be set up as a LAN segment or as a second internet connection. |
| LAN | The site's local network. Devices connect through a switch attached to this port, with network segments carried as VLANs. |
All three are gigabit Ethernet ports.
Status lights
| LED | Meaning |
|---|---|
| PWR | The device has power. |
| CLOUD | On: the ESD is reporting to SC//AcuVigil. Off: its last attempt to report failed. Blinking: the ESD couldn't set its clock from the internet. |
| SEC | On: at least one VPN tunnel is up. Off: no VPN tunnel is up. |
| DIAG | On while the ESD is writing its configuration to storage. |
| WAN, AUX, LAN | One indicator for each network port. |
| DOOR | Door sensor indicator, for sites using Door Monitoring. |
| TEMP | Temperature sensors. Blinks slowly when one sensor is detected and faster when two or more are detected. Off when the sensors can't be read. |
Door and temperature sensors
The MG3 has inputs for door contacts and temperature probes, used by the Door Monitoring and Temperature Monitoring applications.
