A site with more than one internet connection can use failover and load balancing to stay online and make better use of its connections. SC//AcuVigilâ„¢ provides both through applications that run on the site's edge security device (ESD).
What is failover?
Failover automatically switches a site's traffic to another connection when its current connection fails. When the failed connection recovers, traffic can switch back (failback). Failover keeps the site online through a carrier outage.
What is load balancing?
Load balancing spreads a site's traffic across more than one connection at the same time. This makes use of the capacity of every connection instead of leaving a backup connection idle.
Failover options in SC//AcuVigil
SC//AcuVigil offers three applications for managing a site's WAN connections. A site uses only one of them, so don't install more than one on the same ESD.
| Application | What it does | Supported ESDs |
|---|---|---|
| WAN Failover | Switches between a primary and a secondary internet connection if either one fails. | MG3, SG1v1, SG2v1, XG1v1 |
| MultiWAN | Fails over across any number of WAN interfaces and load balances traffic across them. Each interface is assigned to a load balancing group, which sets its priority, and given a weight, which sets its share of traffic within the group. | SG1v1, SG2v1, XG1v1, VG |
| SC//Connect | Sends client traffic through encrypted tunnels to the SC//Connect cloud network, with failover and load balancing across the tunnels on each WAN interface. | SG1v1, SG2v1, XG1v1, VG |
