Company structure and site access

In SC//AcuVigilâ„¢, the sites you can see and work on aren't always only your own company's sites. A company can also include child companies, and individual sites from other companies can be linked to it as partner sites. This page explains how these relationships work and what they mean for your users.

Three ways a site can belong to your view

Relationship What's linked Shown in the dashboard as
Your company's own sites Sites that belong to your company. Company Owned
Child companies A whole company, with all of its sites, placed under your company. Affiliates
Partner sites One site from another company, linked to your company. Partner Sites

Parent and child companies

A company can have child companies, and each child company can have child companies of its own. Together they form a tree, with the top company as the parent of everything below it.

  • A company can have many child companies, but only one direct parent.
  • A parent company sees every site in its child companies, and in their child companies, all the way down the tree.
  • A child company doesn't see its parent's sites or the sites of other child companies.

For example, a company that operates stores in several regions might have a parent company for the whole business and a child company for each region. Users in the parent company see every store, and users in a regional company see only that region's stores.

In the dashboard, child companies are called Affiliates. The Affiliates menu in the top bar lists them, and the Parent Company section of a site's Location info page names the company it belongs to.

Partner sites

A partner site is a single site that belongs to another company and is linked to your company. Links are made one site at a time, and one site can be linked to several partner companies. For example, a fuel brand, a POS vendor, and a loyalty provider might each be linked to the same store.

Each link records:

  • The partner company.
  • The partner type, which describes the relationship: Brand, Franchise, Loyalty, POS Vendor, Reseller, Service Company, or Technology.
  • The partner's own customer number and site number for the site, if it has them.

These details appear in the Partners section of the site's Location info page.

The partner type describes the business relationship. It doesn't change what the partner company's users can do at the site.

What your users can do at these sites

A user has the same access at every site they can see, whether it belongs to their own company, a child company, or is linked as a partner site. What they can do there depends only on their role. For example:

  • A user with the Admin role at a partner company has Admin permissions at every site linked to that company.
  • A user with the Viewer role can view those sites and can also create and edit support tickets for them, as Viewers can at their own sites.

There's no view-only link. If a partner company's users shouldn't be able to make changes at a site, give them roles with fewer permissions. See Managing user permissions.

Important: Before you ask for a site to be linked to another company, check the roles that company's users hold. Every one of them gets their role's permissions at your site.

Where you see these relationships

  • Affiliates menu. Lists your child companies. Select one to open its pages.
  • Locations filter. On the Locations page, the Locations dropdown lets you show All sites, Company Owned sites, Partner Sites, or Affiliates (sites in child companies). Partner Sites appears only if your company has partner sites, and Affiliates appears only if it has child companies. See Finding your way around the dashboard.
  • Location info page. Shows the site's parent company and its partners.
  • Application reports. A report can include sites in your child companies if you select Include Subsidiary Companies. Reports never include partner sites. See Running and scheduling application reports.
