The AcuLock application lets you isolate sites remotely from the SC//AcuVigilâ„¢ dashboard. Locking a site cuts off internet access for the devices on its network while the site's edge security device (ESD) stays online, so Scale Computing can still monitor and manage it. Use AcuLock to contain a security incident, such as a virus or ransomware, and unlock the site after the problem is resolved.
How a lock works
AcuLock currently offers one lock type, Client Lock. When a site is locked:
- The ESD blocks all traffic between the site's registered devices and the internet, in both directions. Unregistered devices are already blocked by default.
- The lock covers the devices that are registered when the lock is applied. Devices registered after the lock is applied aren't covered by it. To register devices at a locked site, contact Scale Computing Support first.
- The ESD itself stays connected, so Scale Computing can still monitor and manage the site, and the site can be unlocked remotely.
- Traffic between devices inside the site isn't changed by the lock.
A typical use looks like this:
- A site is affected by a security incident, such as a virus or ransomware.
- You lock the site, cutting its devices off from the internet so the problem can't spread or reach outside the site.
- You clean up the affected devices at the site.
- When the site is ready, you unlock it, and normal traffic resumes.
Where to find it
Select AcuLock from the Apps menu. The AcuLock page has these controls:
| Control | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Lock Type | The kind of lock. Client Lock is the only type available. |
| Location Groups | Select a site group to lock every site in it. Appears with groups only if site groups are set up for your company. |
| Locations | A checkbox for each site. A selected checkbox means the site is locked, or will be when you apply your changes. Sites that can't be locked are unavailable. Use Toggle select all to select or clear every site. |
| Update Locks | Submits your changes as a lock request. |
| Updates | Shows lock requests that are waiting or in progress. |
Lock or unlock sites
- Select AcuLock from the Apps menu.
- In Lock Type, make sure Client Lock is selected.
-
Select the sites to lock, or clear the sites to unlock.
Important: Locking a site cuts off internet access for every device at that site, including POS and payment devices. Check which sites are selected before you continue.
-
Select Update Locks.
What happens next depends on how many sites you changed:
- One site: the request is queued right away.
- More than one site: the request needs confirmation from a user with the Admin role before it's queued. Until then, the request appears under Updates, where it can be confirmed or canceled.
Queued requests run every five minutes. The page shows the time your request will run. A request can be canceled until it runs.
When a lock request is made, confirmed, or canceled, every user in your company with the Admin role receives an email describing the change.
Who can use AcuLock
| Role | Create lock requests | Confirm lock requests |
|---|---|---|
| Admin | Yes | Yes |
| Support Manager, Customer Help Desk, Installer, Staff | Yes | No |
| Viewer roles and Vendor CSR | No | No |
For more about roles, see Managing user permissions.
